History
The origins of the game of
BottleBee are heavily disputed; however, here at Bottle-Bee.com we are firm
believers that the game was most likely first introduced to the world by...some
set of people. We don't have any facts to back up this claim - but honestly,
it's the only reasonable explanation we could find.
What we do know is that BottleBee is an
incredibly addictive outdoor game. It can be played by people of all ages and
ability. All you need is a little bit of flat ground, a few good friends (even
moderately decent friends will work), a BottleBee setup from Bottle-Bee.com and
a disc - any kind will do. What are you waiting for? It's a beautiful day
for some BottleBee.
How To Play
Prerequisites
- One official BottleBee set and your favorite disc
- Two empty plastic bottles
Setup
- Fill the stability base with water or sand at least 1/2 of the way full.
Caution: Under-filling the base may result in damage to the poles when knocked to the ground or into players. Please fill the base appropriately.
- Insert the bottom pole with base adapter into the stability base - twist to lock in place.
- Slide the top pole (with flanged end) onto the bottom pole.
- Space the poles 30' - 40' apart, depending on the skill level of the
participants, on a flat surface.
- Place one plastic bottle on the platform of each BottleBee pole.
Caution: BottleBee is not intended to be played using glass bottles as they could break and cause injury during game play.
- Form two teams of two. Players from the same team stand
on the same end of the playing field.
- Pick one team to start with the disc. All players must hold a beverage in one hand.
Offense
- When your team is on offense one player will throw the disc
towards the other team's BottleBee pole attempting to knock the bottle off its
perch.
- Teammates should alternate who throws the frisbee each time
they are on offense.
- When throwing the disc you must keep your feet behind the 'foul line' - an imaginary line that extends out from your team's pole's base.
Defense
- When on defense, your team has two jobs: catching the disc and the bottle.
- The first job you have is to catch the disc. You must
wait for the frisbee to cross your foul line and then you can catch it.
You must catch any throw which both teams deem 'catchable.' Any throw that is lower than the 'low line' - the reflective tape on the target pole - is considered to be 'uncatchable.'
- The second job you have is to catch the bottle if the pole is
struck. If the other team hits your BottleBee pole or your bottle directly, you must try to catch the bottle before it hits the ground.
Scoring
- Points are scored when the defense fails to complete one of its
two jobs - catching the disc or catching the bottle.
- If a 'catchable' disc hits the ground, the offense earns 1
point.
- If the bottle is knocked off the BottleBee pole and hits the
ground, the offense earns 2 points.
- If both the disc and the bottle hit the ground, the offense is awarded for both items with a maximum score per round of 3 points.
Victory
- The first team to score 21 points is the winner - but you must
win by at least two points.
